This is a problem that occurs once a while in Excel: Some objects are not showing. Most often, images or charts are not showing. Here are the possible reasons if charts, objects or images are missing and how to get them back!
Possible reasons for missing images and charts in Excel
You had images, charts or other objects (e.g. drawing) in your Excel workbook, but now they are gone? There are basically two possibilities:
- You’ve (accidentally) deleted them?
- They are just not being displayed.
So, let’s see now how to get them back.
Reason 1: How to get images and charts back if you have deleted them
If you are sure that you have not accidentally deleted charts or images, just scroll down to reason number 2.
If you have deleted pictures, charts or objects, try these things:
- Undo (Ctrl + Z) until pictures are shown.
If you have already changed many things, you can repeat undo until the images and charts are back, copy them, redo as long as necessary and paste them. - Restore an older version of your file. Here is how to do that.
Reason 2: Simply display images within the Excel options
There is a hidden setting in Excel with says “For objects, show:”. Here you can select if you want to show all such objects. Objects are in general everything which is not inside cells. So everything from images, drawings, charts, drop-down lists, etc.
You can easily reactivate them. But it’s a little bit hidden:
- Go to File and click on Options.
- On the left side click on “Advanced”.
- Scroll down to the “Display options for this workbook:”. The last bullet point says “For objects, show:”. Set the tick at “All”.
That’s it

Hi,
According to your description, my understanding is that when you open the excel file in browser, then the error «unsupported features» occurs.
Per my knowledge, if you are open the excel in browser using Excel Service or Excel Web App, it supports loading images.
I suggest you can create a new excel file and insert a image to the workbook directly and try to test if it can open in the browser.
Also there are some other unsupported feature in Excel Online, please refer the article below:

Problem
When viewing or opening a report in Excel format, images are not appearing. Instead, we see a box with an error icon (triangle, square and circle). The report shows images when viewed in HTML or PDF, but not in Excel 2002 (just empty placeholders shown)
Cause
The Excel 2002 format is in fact MHT (Multipage-HyperText) formatted for Excel.
The MHT file does not contain the actual images, they are embedded as http links (URLs). If the image path is not fully qualified in the report, the server name that is prefixed to the path is taken from the gateway URL as found in Cognos Configuration. If the gateway URL is defined using localhost (or any other notation not accessible from the client machine where Excel is being launched), the above problem occurs.
Resolving The Problem
Ensure that the URL generated in the report is accessible from a browser on the client computer.
- Specify the Gateway URL in the Environment section of Cognos Configuration using the server name accessible from the client.
- Check the correct web server directory is specified in the Cognos Configuration.
- There shouldn’t be any authentication challenge. Excel isn’t able to respond to requests for external authentication.
Note: The client needs to be online and have network access to the location of the image. There is no facility to «embed» the image into the file.

I love the new Office 2007 too, but this problem with logos not printing from
my Excel spreadsheets is taking so much time from me that I might need to
consider going back to Office 2003.This is the first time since WYSIWYG was introduced that I see this problem.
I hope that the dev team comes with a fix soon, because this problem is a
deal breaker for me rigt now.Fernando

RE: Pictures not showing or printing
Mine is doing the same. If I have a blank page and insert a graphic, all is
well. If I add any other information to any other cell, I loose the graphic
in both print and print preview. I have overcome this with the PDF fix, but
that also does not carry my pictures over. Luckily I have Acrobat 7 pro, so
I just created a stamp with my logo on it and use that.
This is a pity, because otherwise, Office 07 is looking like it is leaps and
bounds ahead of Office 03. All the other components are working faultlessly.«Fernando G. Guerrero» wrote:

I had a similar problem. The fix was getting a newer printer driver. I did a print preview and switch between different printers and the picture showed in the preview of another printer. I downloaded a newer printer driver for the printer and now it prints the picture along with the spreadsheet.
Just want to ask if what’s the cause behind and how to solve this issue. I have pictures in excel that there’re times that it is not displayed. It will just display a message This image cannot currently be displayed

The issue is that excel can’t find the image path.
Use following prefix before your file path for the server location.

I have an image or picture within a worksheet.
I want to be able to reference it from a cell so that depending on a

Is this possible in Microsoft Exec 2000
I have an extensive spreadsheet with several columns and all showing borders
where each cell/column begins and ends. However there are a few cells where
the break with the next cell does not show the line.
I have highlighed the cell in question, gone to format/cell/borders and
everything looks fine. Black color + format border shows square with all
sides of square showing.
Any thoughts on how to fix these few random cells.

Pl help.
Hello, what I would like to do is take a portion of a sheet….. So the cells I want to mirror are in the proposal sheet cells B32 x F51. And then mirror the exact duplicate copy to another sheet. The other sheet should have those same values at A20 X G39. What I am trying to do is have a sheet that has skus, prices, and so forth and then when I add,delete, merge, color, or do anything to the cell on the «proposal creation» sheet I want it to mirror only a specific cells to another sheet that is «salesman copy» that we will print to clients. So this way ont he proposal copy a salesman can insert rows or even change the color of the cells and then have it mirror exactly the same on the «salesman copy» which is what we will print for clients. Thank you.
Here’s my formula… =SUM(S7)-T5
If that number is less than -100, I want it to show as blank.
Any help?
Right now, I’m trying to accomplish this by making a conditional format…meaning when my cell equals less than -100 I make the cell color and font the same (so it looks blank, but its not). When I print it, it still shows the negative value.
Thanks.
Even though I have used Page Layout to set my margins at .3 left and right, I cannot make my columns as wide as they need to be because the spreadsheet continues to print with one inch margins. I am on a deadline — Help!
How can I stretch a spreadsheet to fit the page? If I try to make it one page by one page, it changes nothing. If I change the percentage, it becomes two wide…I am just trying to change the height so that it can be read on an 8.5 x 11 piece of paper.
I have a spread sheet that prints in duplex no matter what I do. I have made sure the printer duplex function is turned off but yet it insists in printing duplex. It is only this one workbook other workbooks print fine.
I hope you have an ansewer.
I am a very advanced Excel user so this is a new one for me.
When I open any spreadsheet (new or already populated) the black box that normally frames the active cell is missing (showing which cell you have selected). Likewise when I ‘select all’ the sheet does not become shaded.
In addition:
Can not fill series
Can not change cell format (specifically to show Currency or Accounting w/$ symbol)
And I am sure there is much more that I have not found yet. I have not seen a single thread on this topic anywhere on the internet.
Help!
Using VBA, I am trying to retrieve the contents of the Source of a web page (the same as would appear if you right-clicked on the page and chose «View Source») into a variable so I can work on it in VBA (using InStr, etc.).
The problem is I can use code such as
strHTMLText = ie.Document.body.innerText
or
strHTMLText = ie.Document.body.outerText
to retrieve the code, but in either case only part, not all, of the source code is captured. I need ALL the code. Is there some kind of code such as ie.Document.body.allText or similar that would perform this function?
Much obliged!
Hi all,
I’ve been getting this error on occasion recently.
— It’s a shared document
— There is usually 10-12 people using the file at the same time
I’ve read on the Microsoft Help site that the issue is that somebody is accessing the file while another is trying to open it.
Is there a way, perhaps through VBA, that I can not allow a user to save while somebody else is opening the document? Other suggestions on how to avoid this error?
Thanks!
A previous poster explained what I also need; there were no responses,
so I thought I would try again.
Does anyone know of an Excel template—or a small stand-alone
program—that will calculate the interest/principal breakdown when
payments are varied in amount and frequency? Free or low-cost, please.
I need one that will work on my Mac/Office 2004. I will need to print
out periodic reports.
Here is the way the previous poster described it:
«Excel template: Loan Amortization for random/irregular payments,
figures days
between payment dates.
I have a loan with a variable beginning balance and irregular payments
with
annual large payment. (based on collections)
Would like to enter payment and date.
then Excel would figure days since last payment, interest amount,
principal
amount, Ending Principal balance.
And total interest paid, total pricipal paid
If I change the starting principal, excel would recalculate all
entries.»
Thanks very much.
I have been using Excel (XP) to make a text chart for several months. Some of
my text entries are rather lengthy. The past two weeks these lengthy entries
are showing up as pound signs (#########) when I click off the cell. I know
the text will fit in the cell, and the problem isn’t solved by making the
cell bigger or using a little bit less text. I have the cells formatted as
«text» and «wrap to fit». I have printed the pages and the printed version
also has pound signs. I just want my text to show up!
I’m trying to use VBA to go to a website that requires a User Name, Password, and a Submit Button.
So far I can get everything to work besides the Submit part. The code runs without errors, but doesn’t actually «hit» the submit button on the webpage.
For posting, I removed my actual user name and password and and used the generic » User Name » and » Password » highlighted in blue.
I highlighted another section in green that I took from a previous post hoping it would solve my problem. The link is: http://www.mrexcel.com/forum/showthr…xplorer+submit
Here is the code I am using:
Sub GoToWebSiteAndPlayAroundNew()
Dim appIE As Object ‘ InternetExplorer.Application
Dim URL As String
Set appIE = CreateObject(«InternetExplorer.Application»)
URL = » https://efolio.morgankeegan.com/escripts/defaultLogon.asp?errCode=2 »
With appIE
.navigate URL
.Visible = True
Do While .busy: DoEvents: Loop
Do While .ReadyState 4: DoEvents: Loop
.document.getelementbyid(«fUserName»).Value = » UserName «
.document.getelementbyid(«fPassword»).Value = » Password »
End With
On Error Resume Next
x = 0
For Each mitem In IE.document.all
mitem.Value = «x»
x = x + 1
Next
x = 0
For Each mitem In IE.document.all
If x = «Submit» Then
mitem.Click
Exit For
End If
Next
End Sub
Hey guys,
I’m trying to write a macro which prints to PDF and saves the file name as the contents of a cell. I’ve been looking through all the posts currently on this forum to get something working. I’m using the following code —
Sub PrintPDF()
Filename = «C:Documents and SettingssambMy Documents» & ActiveSheet.Range(«Z1»).Value
SendKeys Filename & «{ENTER}», False
ActiveWindow.SelectedSheets.PrintOut Copies:=1, ActivePrinter:= _
«Adobe PDF:», Collate:=True
End Sub
The macro prints to PDF, but then it stops at the Save As stage, where I have to manually enter the name of the file and click Save. I want the macro to automatically name the file with the contents of cell Z1. I then want it to then automatically press enter. Any ideas where I’m going wrong? Any help would be much appreciated!
Is there a way to force Excel to stop calculating a formula?
Excel showing «Not Responding» and is grayed out. I’ve tried to use Task Manager to stop the application, but as soon as open up Excel it goes right back to opening the spreadsheets and starts calculating again. I have spreadsheets saved, so don’t have to recover.
thanks…Dean
I have created a simple macro in this excel spreadsheet. Everything works fine until I sent the attachment to my boss. It does not work and keep showing s pop up error msg.
What could be wrong?
I am setting up a PivotTable and only want to show the actual raw data values in the PivotTable field and NOT any sum, count, average, max, min, etc etc.
How can I do this? I only seem to have the options for sums, counts, etc. There are no options for just presenting the data.
So for example, rather than a PivotTable that results in counts of 1, 1, 1 in each cell, I want it to show Compay1, Company2, Company3, etc.
I have a list of 10-digit numbers, but I want to apply a formula/function or
format the cells so that only the first 6 digits show up. Is this possible?

Hi & welcome to MrExcel.
is «Print object» selected in Properties for the image?
-
#5
Can you try on a new workbook?
Do you copy & paste an image on the sheet?
If it will not work then, i think something is wrong with your excel

It’s far more likely to be one of the settings, rather than a problem with Xl.

Can you tell what settings to check. Is there some checkbox for images

Right click the image & select «Size & Properties» & make sure the «print object» box is checked
