Do you always keep your word

Keep the word — an extremely useful habit, because only thanks to the trust between people you can build a prosperous and harmonious society. Receiving from you a promise, people are waiting for its fulfillment, and if it does not follow, dislike may arise. And besides, this behavior can leave a negative imprint on your fate, which in the future will lead to unpleasant surprises.

Have you noticed this for others and yourself?

Do you always keep your word? Frequent cases when loud promises sound in a conversation, but it is necessary only to remind a person of what he said earlier, and he hides in bushes. Often, you should even be surprised that you are demanding something. The tendency to such situations increases, and the ability to keep the word, on the contrary, is becoming weaker.

It is likely that you also sin and do not even notice it. It is only necessary to observe your own behavior to notice this trend. As a rule, many people do not even think about how to keep their word. Often, even parents do not teach this as a child. Neglect of the promised became a generally accepted norm, which no longer surprises anybody.

Why develop this skill?

What does it really mean to «keep the word»? If you say that something will be done, this action must be performed, and small obstacles can not be an excuse. Thus, you are responsible for your statements, are willing to equalize the promised with actions. Gave a word — keep it! So say all the moral standards.

What can this useful skill give you? Starting to practice it, you will notice that your life is noticeably changing for the better. If earlier you talked idly and constantly talked about the need to take certain actions, but there was nothing to follow, now such problems will remain in the past.

«Keep this word» — you say to yourself, and if before you spent a lot of energy on ranting, now it will be used in good channels and improve your life.

It often happens that people talk a lot, but do little. Having accustomed yourself to keep your word, you will not just talk about how you would like to earn more and look better. All these global plans will begin to come true in reality through your consistent steps. Pay attention to yourself and your friends. Surely you often conduct such conversations, gathering in the evenings, but after you leave, nothing changes. To stop dreaming and start acting, follow one simple rule: say the word — keep it.

Positive changes

Your self-esteem will grow steadily as a result of this good habit. The benefit is obvious. The main pillars of moral well-being are trust in oneself and others, and respect. Fulfilling your own promises, you will imbue yourself with respect and mark your own successes.

If you do not fulfill what you have conceived, you can begin to feel like a loser or look for the guilty among others. Such thinking destabilizes personality. So, being honest with yourself and others, you are not so much doing service to everyone around, but also significantly improving your morale. That you are not burdened with unfulfilled tasks, it is better to dispose of them in the shortest possible time. As they say, did the job — go ahead and walk boldly!

be careful

Carefully measure out every word spoken and do not throw them away in vain, because it depends on your own mood and self-esteem. The inferiority complex appears precisely because you neglect your own statements. Your brain is responsible for fixing the fact that this or that obligation is given. If the performance does not come, the trust to oneself is lost. But after all, self-confidence is the basis of self-esteem, which is so necessary for every person. There is no respect for yourself.

And even if you need to do something, you simply will not believe in your own abilities. If earlier you could be honest with yourself, after a systematic lie from a favorable moral plan there will be no trace. Otherwise, you feel better, feel positive emotions and feel strength.

Personal growth

You and your relatives win. You will be shown more respect by colleagues and friends. We all live in a society, it is important who is around us and what our relationships with other people are. You will be trusted by a more responsible and prestigious job, which opens up more opportunities for you.

If you want to choose the life that you like, you have to fight for it, and therefore, to move clearly according to the planned plan, because nobody will do it for you. Achieving the desired is not as difficult as it seems. The main thing is to move from promises to business, and then the result will not be long in coming. We need to start moving in small steps, giving ourselves consistent tasks. The main condition is their mandatory and regular implementation.

Do not put off till tomorrow everything that can be done today

Many people do not realize the value of their own lives, they look at how others live and only complain that someone is hindering them, does not give opportunities, although they themselves do not exert themselves too much to achieve goals. Analyzing the past, we sometimes can not give an adequate explanation of their behavior. As a rule, this is ordinary laziness, naplevatelstvo to yourself, wrong thinking.

Thoughts and words directly affect all spheres of our life. Almost everyone said the phrases «You need to change everything», «I want to start everything from the beginning», but the task seemed so unbearable and incomprehensible that it did not reach the completion of the work. Everything seemed too complicated, useless and pointless. We spend a lot of energy on bad thoughts, empty talk and doubt.

When everything falls into place when the desire comes true, the person feels wonderful, feels the meaning of his own existence, his wings behind him appear from the sensation of his own power to create and achieve everything he wants. So keep your word. Then your state of health will be successful, and every day — joyful and meaningful.

Ananya Bhatt

I am Ananya, a professional speaker and I love motivating people and inspiring them to pursue their dreams. Sharing quotes, proverbs, and sayings of great authors to touch people’s lives to make it better.

A few months ago, a friend of mine told me that she felt like the only person I was unfair to with a lot of my actions was myself. Her words made sense then but they were on a minor emotional level, yesterday they made sense on a deeper level.

I realized yesterday that I had gone back on a lot of promises I made to myself last year. The result of going back on these promises has been heartbreaking. In the last 24 hours, I’ve felt my heart shatter and I realised I’ll be living like a zombie for the next couple of days until I can find my bearing with life again.

It may seem unfair to me in some sort of way when I keep my promises to other people in exchange, I hurt myself in the process. Most times it feels like I care more about making others happy than I do about making myself happy.

I have a very high mental image of myself in the eyes of a lot of people. So, the moment I say I will do a certain thing, my mental desire to keep my image strong makes sure that I pull all the possible strings just to make sure I keep my word.

Unlike before when I had no way to make adjustments and keep my promises, these days I tend to always have a way to keep my promises. Especially if they are financial. To the best of my abilities, I’ve also tried to keep my emotional promises whenever I make them.

Emotional promises are even a lot harder to keep than financial ones. I can’t promise to be with a person for 6 months and ensure I’ll be happy all through. However, I can promise a certain amount of money and then liquidate some of my assets to ensure I keep that promise.

I don’t expect this same energy from other humans, unfortunately. As much as I don’t hold people accountable for their financial promises when an emotional promise is made, I tend to take it too seriously.

I feel like if you have the balls to make a promise that affects your feelings, you should have the balls to keep it. Yet, these are the promises people rarely keep. I’m learning to accept this and restructure my life accordingly.

Keeping promises is hard. Let’s face it, there’s a sea of possible occurrences in life that could change the outcome of a promise. As much as it hurts when these words aren’t kept, some understanding could be helpful.

Some people say I’m too understanding so it makes it easy for people to take me for granted, I don’t know if that’s a good or bad thing. So far, it hasn’t worked entirely in my favour.

Do you keep your word often? How do you do it? Are you understanding when people don’t keep to their promises?

A few days back I wrote an article about being Honest, Open and Transparent, called ‘I’m one HOT guy!’. Many see this as being the right way of being, but others, maybe understandably, are cautious and worried about the implications. Some feel that by following this type of philosophy they are leaving themselves defenceless to attack and deceit by others.

Maybe at times this is the price you have to pay, but in my books the benefits outweigh the price that you have to occasionally pay.

The feedback that I have received has made me think quite hard. Other circumstances of the weekend just gone have allowed me to think deeply and consider many things.

I have been considering the importance of personal integrity in all areas of our lives. Integrity underlines the link between the choices we make and the results that follow. A person of integrity is honest, reliable and trustworthy. It is true that it is not easy to always maintain these qualities but is there many things easy in life?

To have a high integrity you must do what is right, and yes at times this can be tough.  Simply, a person of integrity cannot take the easy way all the time. But I do believe that everything worth having is worth fighting for. Having a high integrity can be one of  the most difficult qualities to achieve, but once you have achieve it, it can be so satisfying.

Imagine right now, that you have complete peace of mind, absolutely no guilty feelings about anything at all.

How great would this feel?

Can you 100% honestly tell yourself that you carry no guilt at this very moment?

Here is something that I don’t want you to question, I just want you to accept it,

‘You will feel good, about yourself, and about life, when you know you are doing the right things!’

“It’s not always easy to do the right thing. But, doing the right thing makes you strong, it builds character, it forces you to make decisions based upon your beliefs and not what other people think. In life, and in business, you have to stand for what you believe in and sometimes you have to stand alone. But, what makes you a leader is having the courage of your convictions.” Queen Latifah

To have integrity means that you do the right thing, make the right choices. To me it means having good moral values, and integrating them into how you live your life.   It means, of course, being honest, open and transparent, and I also believe it goes together with good leadership.

“Integrity is the most valuable and respected quality of leadership. Always keep your word.” Jim Rohn

An important principle, associated with integrity is ‘To always keep your word’.

If you say you are going to do something, then make sure you follow through on it.  By always keeping your word, you keep your Integrity. Always keep your promise, and if you cannot, don’t make them.  When you give your word that you are going to do something, your word has to be your bond.  Please learn not to make promises you don’t intend to keep, and certainly don’t pledge yourself to something you can’t follow through on..

If you give your word to another, then stick to it.

If you give make a promise to another, then abide by it.

If you say you are going to do something, then do it.

“Breaking of your word is a folly, a dishonor, and a crime.  It is a folly, because no one will trust you afterwards; and it is both a dishonor and a crime, truth being the first duty of religion and morality; and whoever has not truth, cannot be supposed to have any one good quality.” Lord Philip Stanhope Chesterfield

You want to be somebody that others know can be counted on. To become this type of ‘leader’ you need to maintain your Integrity, uphold your Dignity, prove your Trustworthiness, maintain the Respect of Others and of course show Honesty, Openness and Transparency.

Fisher DeBerry a former American football player and coach in the United States said: “If you give someone your word, you have to realize what that means. Your word is the most important possession you have.  If I tell someone I will do something or be somewhere, I will do everything within my power to do it.”

“If you propose to speak always ask yourself – is it true, is it necessary, is it kind?” Gautama Buddha

Ask yourself before you give anybody a promise:

Is this something I actually want to do?

Is this something I can actually do?

What do I need to know or have to get this done?

What can possibly get in the way of me completely this commitment?

It is hard to overstate the importance of ensuring that your actions are consistent with your words. Show that your words are of value.

Another article I wrote, ‘Get Yourself Up, Dust Yourself Down, And Move On’ shows that your communications and interactions are essential when it comes to relationships.  When you are faced with any type of problem within the relationship that diminishes your sense of love and togetherness, you must be willing to communicate until that problem is resolved. You must not rest until the result has been produced, until understanding and agreement has been reached. At times purposeful, powerful communication is needed to succeed in all relationships. But of course choose your words wisely, and then make sure you stick by what you say.

“The promises of yesterday are the taxes of today”.  William Lyon MacKenzie

Two people in a relationship are unlikely to experience the same event or reality in exactly the same way. Each has there  own “internal reality” about whatever has happened, and these internal realities must always be taken into account. But together you can reach a position of accord, but leave nothing unsaid. Don’t leave unanswered questions to vibrate around in either of your heads,

As a business owner, and as importantly a coach, I am fully aware that I will not succeed if no one trusts me. People need to believe me, have confidence in me, depend on me. Losing trust is easy. You forget a promise you made. You fail to do what you said you would do. Keeping my word, fulfilling my promises is essential.

As a parent, it is of so much importance to keep your word. We will never be able to inspire a character trait in our child if we don’t have and prove it in our own behaviour. Children are very sensitive to our genuineness. Boosting our children’s expectations and nurturing the trait of trustworthiness in them are two of the benefits of keeping our word, as well keeping them away from disappointment.

Has something similar to this, ever happened to you:

“But Daddy, you said”

“Yes, I know, but I didn’t know that I would have to stay at work!”

“I don’t care! you said we’d all spend time together today!”

“But Darling, I can’t walk away from work!”

“But you said… you promised … we were all going out for the day”

“But I had no choice, sweet heart”

“Yes Daddy, you chose to break your word to me!”

Please make sure that you create in your children the expectation that what you promise, you will deliver. Each time we keep our word, each time we do what we said we were going to, we are building for their future an expectation of fulfilment instead of disappointment.

So in life, you need to make a commitment to yourself, and to those around you, to keep your word, if you said you would, then you will, that needs to be one of your principles in life. So choose your words wisely and be prepared to stand behind them.

My next Rule of Life will focus on “Invest time to share knowledge and passion with others so that they can grow.”

“Losers make promises they often break.  Winners make commitments they always keep”. Denis Waitley
