THE WRONG BUS

A Japanese businessman had a big surprise last Sunday when he got the wrong bus to the airport and missed his flight.

Zenko Kajiyama, 32, went to Waverley station to catch the bus to Edinburgh airport. He had a meeting the next day in London and he wanted to catch the evening flight. When he saw a silver bus marked Club Class he got on it. Unfortunately the bus was for people going to a birthday party.

The people on the bus helped Mr Kajiyama with his bags and found him a seat. He thought he was on the

right bus until they stopped at a pub and everyone got off. They asked Mr Kajiyama to join their party and so he followed them into the pub. When he looked at his watch he saw it was too late and that he had missed his plane. At first he was very worried, but then he decided to stay in the pub. He had a drink and danced to the music with the other members of the party. In the end he went back to the house of one of his new friends and he slept on the sofa. The next morning he took a taxi to the airport and flew to London, but he was too late for his meeting.

It may look earthbound, but the simulator has sky-high virtual
reality at the flick of a button. You find by yourself seated inside

an exact copy of a plane cockpit. All the controls and switches can

be operated just so as they would be if you were flying a real plane.

You can feel it every movement of the aircraft. If the simulator

is asked to create dangerous weather conditions, everything shakes

dramatically and you are more glad you were shown how to fasten

the safety harness before taking off. If too rain is required, your

windscreen is soon too far wet to see out of. You hear life-like

sounds inside and outside the simulator and you accept without

question the fact that computers will create instant day or night for

you. Even real-life pilots regularly use to these simulators for

retraining. Every emergency such exercise can be practised in

complete safety but the fear on the pilots’ their faces is real enough!

The experience is not very intended to be a sort of computerized

show. It is there to provide some training for those with who have

already flown up a light aeroplane and are thinking about becoming

pilots with larger commercial airlines.

Part II. READING

Task 4.  Read the text and the sentences below. Write true (T), false (F), or don’t know (?).

Hello, and welcome to Safe in our hands, the programme that protects you, the consumer.

In March this year, Mr Kinner of Bolsover bought a new hi-fi system for £600 from Sound International. He paid the shop a £100 cash deposit, and signed a document to say he would pay £50 a month for the next ten months. He understood that after this the hi-fi system would be fully paid for. But at the end of the ten months, Mr Kinner received a new bill for £42.16 — the ‘unpaid interest for the ten-month period’. He was away on business at the time, so his wife paid the bill. When Mr Kinner returned, he was very angry, and immediately contacted us. We phoned the manager of Sound International, and three days later, Mr Kinner received a cheque for £42.16, and a free Walkman personal stereo.

34.  Mr Kinner thought he wouldn’t have to pay any interest.

35.  Mr Kinner paid the deposit by credit card.

36.  Mr Kinner thought the total cost of the hi-fi was £600.

37.  Mr Kinner often buys hi-fi equipment.

38.  Mr Kinner had an overdraft at the bank.

39.  The shop said that Mr Kinner was still in debt after ten months.
