Some general guidelines for forming comparatives of adjectives in English:
1>>
For adjectives of one syllable just add “er”
e.g. black / blacker ; cold / colder etc
If the adjective ends in “consonant / vowel / consonant” then you generally repeat the last consonant as well as adding “er”.
e.g — wet / wetter ; hot / hotter ;
2>>
For adjectives of two syllables ending in “y” , change the “y” to “ier”.
e.g – heavy / heavier ; cosy / cosier
3>>
If the adjective has more than two syllables, or has two syllables and does not end in “y”, then you just put “more” in front of it.
e.g — as in your example –
crowded (two syllables and not ending in “y”) >> more crowded.
beautiful >> more beautiful.
etc.
——
Needless to say, there are lots of irregulars, such as – good / better ; bad / worse etc.
Saludos.
