Что такое strong adjectives (сильные прилагательные)? Ответ на этот вопрос можно выразить формулой:
a strong adjective = very + a normal adjective
Для ясности давайте посмотрим несколько примеров:
tiny (малюсенький) = very small
furious (разъяренный) = very angry
starving = very hungry
В этих примерах tiny, furious and starving являются strong adjectives. Зачем нам знать, каким является прилагательное? Со strong adjectives, в отличие от normal adjectives (слабых прилагательных), мы не можем использовать «very».
Сильные прилагательные как английские слова более ярко выражены. Normal adjectives — это, когда что-то может быть очень интересным или не очень. Но если мы говорим о strong adjectives, то нельзя быть «очень или не очень» разъяренным, «очень или не очень» малюсеньким, «очень или не очень» идеальным. То есть, это крайняя степень какого-либо признака. Мы даже в русском языке не скажем “очень великолепный” или “очень громадный”.
Таким образом, “very cold” — OK, но не “very freezing”, “very tasty” — OK, но не “very delicious” (хотя в разговорной речи американцы могут этим грешить).
Что же мы можем использовать со strong adjectives? Обычно со strong adjectives употребляются слова really, completely или absolutely.
I’m completely exhausted – У меня совершенно нет сил (exhausted – крайняя степень усталости = very tired).
The talk was absolutely brilliant – Речь была просто потрясающей (brilliant = very good).
She felt completely and utterly drained, and she really wasn’t in the mood to have to explain everything to the girls right now – Она чувствовала себя совершенно изможденной, и была совершенно не в настроении объяснять все девушкам прямо сейчас (drained = very tired).
Но стоит обратить внимание на следующий момент: слова completely и absolutely употребляются, главным образом, со strong adjectives. То есть, нельзя сказать “absolutely tasty”. Поэтому если вы не знаете, каким является то или иное прилагательное, то используйте really: “really tasty” и “really delicious” оба варианта правильны.

It’s an adverb because it modifies an adjective — adverbs modify anything that isn’t a noun. In this case, the adjective is ‘good’. Very can be used as an adjective, however, in such phrases as ‘the very soul of man’; here it lends weight to the noun.

«Very» is acting as an adverb in your sentence because it is describing the adjective «good.»
An adjective describes something.
You can’t say, «Questlove is a very drummer,» so you see it cannot act as an adjective in this sentence.
A good rule of thumb is to put a noun right after the word you are wondering is an adjective. If it makes sense, it’s most likely an adjective.
