Проблема: при выделении слова (части текста) и нажатие клавиши BackSpace выделенный текст не удаляется, а курсор возвращается на начало этого выделенного фрагмента, помимо этого (думаю, как следствие) при выделении части текста, этот текст нельзя сразу заменить на то, что нужно…Как мне это устранить? Расскажите поподробнее.

Это параметры настройки. Откройте диалоговое окно Параметры Word и перейдите на вкладку Дополнительно. Установите флажок на параметре Заменять выделенный фрагмент.
Все должно работать.

подскажите, как победить такую нездоровую фигню:
в ворде выделяю текст и жму бэкспейс и ничего не удаляется.
аналогично, выделенный текст не заменяется новым — новый появляется перед выделенным текстом.
в нотпаде всё гут. и это не финты с инсёртом, а видимо настройка какая-то.

пробовал: удалял word 2003, заново установил, проблемам осталась, нажимал на кнопку insert-нехрена. Всё так же. Удаление происходит только при нажатии на кнопку Delete

thanks Garfield — I could find no answer to this maddening and illogical problem in Word 2004 for the Mac till I saw your response. How Microsoft could so misdescribe a Preference check is amazing
Microsoft Word provides many features to create a document in a simple and convenient manner. However sometimes some small problems creep in and some of the keys stop working properly. A malfunctioning backspace key is a well known problem that can be easily fixed. Follow the simple steps below to make sure yours is configured correctly.
How to fix a broken backspace key?
If the problem is purely software related and not a physical problem with the key itself, this should solve the issue:
- Click on File > Options > Advanced > Editing Options
- Make sure that «Typing replaces selected text» is checked
How to repair a broken backspace key?
If this does not work, check you may need to check that there isn’t any debris underneath the key, or that there hasn’t been any recent water damage that could cause a malfunction. If there is a physical problem with the key, try removing the key from the keyboard and removing any debris that is stuck underneath. Once you have done this, replace the key on the keyboard and test it again.
If you have spilled water on your keyboard, this could be more problematic. You will want to first try and dry out the keyboard. If possible, remove all of the keys to expose any waterlogged areas and dry them out. Once you are satisfied that the keyboard is now dry, try replacing all of the keys and seeing if it works. If it still doesn’t work, then the keyboard may unfortunately be past the point of repair.

In MS Word 2003, if I highlight a word/paragraph and press the Backspace button it doesn’t delete the text. If I highlight a word/paragraph and type another word it doesn’t delete the highlighted word/para. I’m forced to use the Delete button now. The Backspace button used to be my go to button- loved it. In Firefox, Windows, anywhere else I can still use Backspace as before; only Windows has this problem.
Another problem that I just notice is that I can press Tab to indent a paragraph, but when I try to use Shift+Tab to bring it back it simply pushes the text further to the right, as if I’d just pressed Tab again. Again this is only in Word. Maybe related?
I must have made some change but don’t know what I did. I really don’t remember doing anything out of the ordinary… Does anyone know how to change this setting?

In MS Word, go to Tools —> Options —> Edit Tab and make sure that Typing Replaces Selection (first option) has a tick next to it.
As for Shift + Tab, it does the same thing as Tab on my computer.

Brilliant, thanks a lot! I guess I assumed that the Shift+Tab worked to un-Tab like it does moving backwards between fields. Oh well.
