How to use «Imposed» in context?
An imposed sentence is one in which the sentence is not the result of a criminal trial, but is instead imposed by a judge or other authority figure. Imposition of a sentence is relatively rare in the United States; it is more common in less developed countries.
An imposed sentence can sometimes be a result of plea bargaining. The defendant may plead guilty to a crime in exchange for a lesser sentence. If the prosecution feels that the defendant is too dangerous to release, they may instead press for an imposed sentence.
An imposed sentence can also be a result of a jury trial.
