Hi there,
I was knocked out by this question. «each time» are two words; is there one word which has the same meaning? Thank you.

    • #2

«Each time» can be replaced with «everytime» however «each time» denotes more specifically that we are picking out specific times and «everytime» is a bit more general.

«Each time he went there he got smarter»=empthasis on all the times he went.

«Everytime he went there he got smarter»=no particular empthasis on the times he went, just that he would always get smarter when he went.

    Welcome to the forum pallmall

«Everytime» is not recognized as a single word by the WRD, Merriam Webster Online, Dictionary.com or Webster’s New World College Dictionary.

I suggest you not consider it.

Welcome to the forum, pallmall. :)

«Every time» is two words for me. If I saw it as one word, I would assume that it was a mistake, or I was reading song lyrics where the author was using poetic license.

At the moment, I can’t think of a single word that fits your request. I’ll keep thinking. :)

I agree that «each time» is two words.

    How about «whenever»?

“Each” means one of two or more people (or things), considered individually. “Every” means all the members of a group, without exception. The words may seem to mean the same thing , but there are nuances of difference.
For example: “Each member of the choir” is considering all of them one by one; “every member of the choir” is considering them as a collection, one from which no member is excluded.

When you say, “Each time I visit my mother, I get a headache,” you’re thinking of headache after headache after headache, with each individual visit. When you say, “Every time I visit my mother, I get a headache,” you’re stating a rule—something that happens without exception.
