Microsoft Word has its devotees, but find one person who loves it, and you’ll probably find several who don’t. From redesigns that hide familiar menu items to overly complicated and often unused features, there’s a lot to be desired in a simple word processor that Microsoft Word doesn’t deliver due to its complex nature.
Microsoft Word and the rest of Microsoft Office is expensive–for instance, Microsoft 365 Business Premium costs $22 a user per month. There are also some details about the pricing for the home edition of Microsoft Office, including such information as the number of users and cloud storage.
If you don’t need all the features that Microsoft Word offers, it can be hard to justify paying that price, especially in a small business environment where you just need a word processor. Don’t pay for what you aren’t going to use–take a look at one of these six free Microsoft Word alternatives instead.
Google Docs
Google Docs, which is easily the most popular Microsoft Word alternative on this list, is free to everyone with a Google account.
If you want the basic features of Microsoft Word, you don’t need to look any further than Google Docs–it does all your basic word processing needs, and it is tightly integrated with Google Drive and other products. Since everything is saved in Google’s cloud, you don’t need to worry about losing your work–Docs autosaves after every single keystroke, so in the event of a crash you should be able to pick up right where you left off, down to the letter. Google Docs also supports Microsoft Word’s .doc and .docx formats, so you shouldn’t have any problems importing and editing those.
One of its best features for business users is real-time collaboration. If you share a document with another Google user, both of you can be in the document at the same time, see the other user’s cursor position, watch what they’re typing, and chat to each other as well. It’s a great collaboration tool that stands out among word processors.
Advanced users may find the features lacking–it really is a bare-bones word processor.
Apache OpenOffice Writer
If you hate Microsoft Word because of the invention of the ribbon, then Apache’s OpenOffice Writer is the 2003 throwback you want. It has a classic interface that, while it can look a bit cluttered, mimics the menus that Microsoft tossed out when Office 2007 was released. It will definitely feel familiar to Office 2003 users, with the added perk of still receiving updates and security patches, which is important for a business software suite.
OpenOffice Writer has its own document format, but it also supports .doc and .docx files, and it does a great job of maintaining formatting when importing those types of files. Many of the advanced features of Microsoft Word are included in OpenOffice Writer as well, so editing complex Word documents won’t be an issue.
If online collaboration or native cloud support is a selling point, then you may want to pass on OpenOffice Writer because it includes neither. It is possible to store files in a cloud drive and access them using OpenOffice, but you’ll need to have the desktop client of Google Drive, Microsoft OneDrive or Apple iCloud installed, so you can open your cloud storage like a local computer folder.
Zoho Writer
Zoho Writer is a free document creation tool with a clean writing interface and powerful built-in capabilities. Writing documents in Writer is largely distraction-free, while important text tools are still within reach.
The native features of Writer, many of which leverage the capabilities of other Zoho apps, really set it apart from the bunch. Use the built-in AI tool, Zia, for better quality content, fast grammar fixes and insight into the document’s readability for different audiences. The Document Sign tool puts e-signature tools right in the doc, so teams can go from draft to approval to signature all in the same space. Document Fillable tools also put forms right in your documents, giving them a professional feel that’s ready for embedding anywhere you need a form.
Not to be outdone by Google Docs or Microsoft Word, Zoho Writer’s real-time collaboration has granular controls including comments, suggestions, text masking to hide some items from collaborators and even content locks for blocks of text. Zoho Writer is built for corporate collaboration, legal approvals and creative teams.
LibreOffice Writer
The Document Foundation’s LibreOffice Writer, like OpenOffice, is a completely free and open-source product that offers word processing, support for .doc and .docx file formats, and all the tools the average Microsoft Word user will need in a word processor. LibreOffice Writer and OpenOffice Writer are similar in a lot of ways: Interface style, file format support, lack of cloud integration and real-time collaboration, and general word processing features. Both are solid choices for those looking for a free alternative to Microsoft Word, and selecting one over the other largely comes down to preference.
One aspect of LibreOffice stands out, and it isn’t what’s in the app–it’s the community-driven nature of the platform. Collaborating with users and developers to improve the product is front and center on LibreOffice’s website, and that focus has grown LibreOffice into a thriving community of users and coders that keep making it better.
WPS Office Writer
If you want a word processor that’s just as feature packed as Word, but you don’t want to pay a premium, check out WPS Office Writer. It is a full-featured application suite that feels premium.
WPS Office Writer does most of the same things as Microsoft Word, and it includes native cloud support to make storing documents online a snap; however, it does lack real-time collaboration. Look at any review of WPS Office Writer, and you’ll find statements that attest how much it’s like Word. With its inclusion of more features than other free suites like OpenOffice, this might be the one to go for–especially considering you don’t have to pay for it.
With anything free and high quality, there’s a catch, and you might be able to guess what it is in our modern age of “freemium” apps: Ads. Don’t let that dissuade you from trying WPS Writer–you might not see an ad. There’s no banner across the top of the app–ads only appear when you want to use select features like printing or exporting to PDF. If you need to do one of those things, you’ll have to sit through a roughly 10-second ad, which unlocks the feature for 30 minutes. If you like what WPS Writer has to offer, you can opt to eliminate ads by paying a yearly subscription fee of $29.99, or you can fork over $119.99 for a lifetime license.
Microsoft Office Word Online
Don’t overlook Microsoft’s free alternative to the paid version of Word: Office Online. Like Google Docs, Microsoft Word Online is a simplified, cloud-based version of Word. It lacks a lot of the advanced features of a locally-installed version of Word, but for users who want a free version of Word, this is as close as you can get.
Similarities between Google Docs and Word Online are present all the way down to the interface, but with a few tweaks to make it feel more like the Microsoft ribbon instead of the drop-down menus Google Docs users are used to. Documents created in Word Online are saved in Microsoft OneDrive, and real-time collaboration features like those in Google Docs are available as well. One big plus in Word Online’s favor is formatting: If you create a document in Word Online and then import it to a local version of Microsoft Word, it’s going to retain the formatting way better than if it’s made in Google Docs.

Это немного урезанные версии Word, Excel и PowerPoint из обычного пакета Microsoft Office. Для работы нужен браузер и учетная запись Microsoft.
Ограничений достаточно много: например, в Word не получится сохранить файл в RTF и PDF-формате, отредактировать текст в сохраненном стиле, редактировать HTML-документы. В PowerPoint можно делать только три презентации в месяц, а бесплатных шаблонов чуть больше 20.
Из плюсов — разработчики постоянно обновляют сервис, вполне вероятно, что через месяц-два нужная функция уже появится. Например, раньше в онлайн-версии Excel нельзя было использовать сводные таблицы. Сейчас функция доступна.
Файлы хранятся в облаке OneDrive. Причем сохранение автоматическое — вы не потеряете данные, если отключат электричество. По умолчанию доступно 5 Гб. Если купить подписку за 6,99 $ (545 Р) в месяц, хранилище увеличат до 1 Тб и будет доступен основной пакет всех программ Microsoft Office. С российской карты оплатить подписку не получится, но на маркетплейсах можно купить ключ активации на подписку Microsoft 365.
Использовать онлайн-версию стоит, если вам нужно открывать, создавать и редактировать текстовые документы и таблицы. В целом этого хватает для офисной работы.
Google Документы, Таблицы и Презентации

Этот набор офисных онлайн-приложений заменяет мне все программы от Microsoft Office: Word здесь называется «Документы», Excel — «Таблицы», а PowerPoint — «Презентации». Для работы нужна учетная запись Google.
Функции аналогичны «Офису». Интерфейс немного другой, но все интуитивно понятно. Пакет подходит для работы в команде, причем в режиме реального времени: например, пока я пишу этот текст, редактор может обрабатывать начало документа.
Одновременно просматривать, комментировать и редактировать документ могут до 100 человек. Если людей в файле окажется больше, то право вносить изменения будет у тех, кому его дал создатель документа. Остальные смогут просто смотреть.
Хранятся документы в облаке, которое называется «Google Диск». По умолчанию у каждого пользователя есть 15 Гб. За 139 Р в месяц можно получить еще 100 Гб. С российской карты оплатить подписку не получится. Для оплаты потребуется иностранная карта и смена региона профиля.
Файлы можно редактировать и офлайн, но только из браузера Google Chrome: после подключения к интернету файл синхронизируется с основным документом в облаке.
Из минусов — если попытаться открыть файл от Microsoft в «Google Документах», может потеряться часть форматирования.
Apple iWork

Пакет офисных приложений от Apple работает на всех устройствах экосистемы, то есть на Макбуке, Айпаде, Айфоне. В пакете три программы: Pages для редактирования текстовых документов, Numbers для таблиц и Keynote для презентаций. Работать в сервисе можно одновременно с коллегами. Готовые файлы конвертируются в форматы для Word, Excel и PowerPoint.
Презентации в iWork больше ориентированы на красивую анимацию и рисование стилусом — Apple Pencil. Конкурент Excel тоже отличается: вместо привычных таблиц на главной странице будет чистый лист. И уже на него можно добавлять таблицы, диаграммы, графики и изображения. Pages тоже отличается от Word: документ скорее похож на веб-страницу, чем на привычный текстовый файл.
Для работы нужна учетная запись Apple ID. Документы хранятся на устройстве или в облаке iCloud: по умолчанию там 5 Гб, за 59 Р в месяц можно купить еще 50 Гб. Пополнить счет Apple ID в российском регионе можно по номеру телефона МТС или «Билайн».
LibreOffice

Это бесплатный офисный пакет, программы которого переведены более чем на 30 языков. В этом проекте есть аналоги Word, Excel и PowerPoint — Writer, Calc, Impress. А еще аналог баз данных Access — Base.
Есть и уникальный инструмент — редактор формул LibreOffice Math. Он помогает редактировать и записывать собственные формулы — это удобно для технических специалистов и студентов инженерных вузов.
Работа с документами, таблицами и презентациями практически не отличается от Microsoft Office. Раньше основной претензией к пакету был устаревший визуальный облик, сделанный по аналогии с интерфейсом Office 2007. В седьмой версии LibreOffice в 2020 году это исправили: теперь редактор похож на MS Office 2019 года.
Кроме того, в новой версии пакета можно сохранять документы в формате docx. Для Calc стало возможно экспортировать файлы в формат xlsx — это современный стандарт Microsoft Excel.
Из минусов — нет онлайн-версии, работать в файле одновременно с коллегами не получится. В приложениях для смартфонов можно только смотреть документы, но не изменять их.
Еще один важный минус — LibreOffice работает ощутимо медленнее, чем MS Office, даже на современных компьютерах. С другой стороны, если нужно открыть файл, а «Офиса» на компьютере нет, LibreOffice выручит.

Этот бесплатный офисный пакет от китайских разработчиков раньше назывался Kingsoft Office. Доступны практически полные аналоги Word, PowerPoint и Excel с поддержкой всех возможных форматов. Встроен редактор PDF-файлов — можно быстро перевести и распознать текст из сканированного файла. Есть онлайн-версия редактора, в том числе для командной работы.
Файлы сохраняются в облаке, при регистрации учетной записи бесплатно дают 1 Гб. За 29,99 $ (2310 Р) в год можно расширить диск до 20 Гб. С российской карты «Виза», «Мастеркард» или «Мир» оплатить не получится, но есть поддержка UnionPay. Есть ограничения: WPS может открыть файлы размером до 200 Мб, но обычно этот лимит превышают только огромные презентации с анимированными картинками.
В бесплатную версию пакета встроена реклама — время от времени на экране появляются баннеры. Причем это может происходить не только во время работы программы: приложение активно всегда, когда работает устройство.

Zoho Workplace is very good in its own right. It’s certainly closer to a desktop office package, and it’s strong enough to have attracted businesses like the BBC and Nike as regular users.
Zoho’s new-look word processor (which ditches the classic Word-style interface in favor of a formatting sidebar) is very well-presented and capable of producing professional-looking docs, and it has a sterling spreadsheet and reasonable presentation package alongside it.
They’re just the tip of the iceberg, however – Zoho Workplace includes a powerful site creation tool, a file management solution and many collaborative tools. Some are on the simplistic side, so they’ll likely not replace anything you might already have in place, but if you’re starting out as a small business Zoho is probably a good jumping-off point.
If you want to signup for the free version of Zoho Workplace you need to search the pricing page for the «Forever free» plan. However, there’s no one-click set up or access, and instead you have to go through a sign up process that begins by providing details of an existing business domain.

If you own a Samsung phone, you might already be familiar with the mobile version of Polaris Office. This cross-platform free office software is available for Windows, macOS, Android and iOS, and comes pre-installed on some Samsung handsets. It’s compatible with all Microsoft document formats, and offers a slick ribbon-based interface with some basic customization options.
Take care if you choose to install Windows version, you’ll see various additional pieces of bundled software, which could potentially include a browser extension from McAfee called WebAdvisor, a market research tool called PremierOpinion, and antivirus software (opens in new tab). You can decline all of these – just keep an eye out.
You’ll then need to sign in with Facebook or Google, or create an account. This is necessary because Polaris Office is a cloud-based service. Your free Polaris account comes with 60MB monthly data transfer, 1GB cloud storage, and can be used across three devices (one desktop and two mobile). If that’s not enough space, you can connect Polaris Office to Google Drive, Dropbox, Box, Microsoft OneDrive and Amazon Cloud Drive – or save work locally to your device.
Upgrading to a premium Polaris account gives you access to extra features including a PDF editor, removes ads, and the ability to search within a document.

LibreOffice is compatible with all Microsoft document formats, and has almost every feature you’ll find in the latest versions of Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
The suite contains six programs to cover every common office task: Writer, Calc, Impress, Draw, Math and Base. The last three are tools you won’t find in many other free office suites, and are designed for vector diagrams, mathematical functions and databases, respectively. The latter is particularly useful; free alternatives to Microsoft Access are hard to find.
LibreOffice is an open source project maintained by a huge and enthusiastic community of volunteers constantly working to improve stability and add new features. There’s a great selection of extensions and templates to make it even more flexible, and it’s free for businesses as well as home users.
LibreOffice is a fork of Apache OpenOffice, and the two are extremely similar, but LibreOffice is the better overall product and properly supports file conversion that preserves existing formatting — so your Word .doc files should look the same in LibreOffice as they do in Word, and vice versa.
LibreOffice is available for Windows, Mac and Linux, but there are no official mobile versions available except for a document viewer for Android. It has some editing features, but they’re experimental and we wouldn’t advise relying on them.

WPS Office Free is a slimmed down version of a premium office suite, but you’d hardly know it. Each of its three programs looks just as slick as the latest versions of Word, Excel and PowerPoint, and is packed with just as many features.
File format support is excellent, and you can save your work in native Microsoft formats for easy sharing with Office users. There’s no database software, but WPS Office comes with an excellent free PDF reader that’s a great replacement for Windows’ built-in app.
There’s the occasional ad, but these are few and far between. They certainly won’t get in the way of your work, and you’ll easily forget that everything in this suite is completely free.
There are versions of WPS Office Free for Windows and Linux systems, as well as apps for Android devices, but Apple device users will need to look elsewhere.

Like WPS Office Free, SoftMaker FreeOffice provides analogs for Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint (TextMaker, PlanMaker and Presentations respectively).
As with all the free office suites in this roundup, there’s support for Microsoft file formats from 1997 onwards. It also offers effortless conversion to both PDF and Epub formats, which is a welcome addition.
Unfortunately, some key features are exclusive to the premium version of the software. Some of these (like tabbed browsing) are nice to have but non-essential, but the lack of a thesaurus is a real drawback for anyone who writes on a regular basis.
FreeOffice doesn’t look quite as smart as WPS Office, but if you dislike the Microsoft ribbon and find it unintuitive then you’ll prefer the slightly more old fashioned approach to navigation.

If you work collaboratively, or switch between a PC and a Mac, Google Docs, Sheets and Slides could be your first port of call.
For anyone who’s already deep into the Android/Google ecosystem, this suite will be a natural choice. The three key tools run happily in any web browser, and are available as mobile apps for Apple and Android devices.
Google’s free office suite doesn’t offer the advanced tools you’ll find in desktop software like LibreOffice (there are no pivot tables, for example, and there’s no database tool) but everything is laid out in a clear, logical way and all your files will be saved and synced automatically so you don’t have to worry about transfers and backups.
The chief disadvantage of Docs, Sheets and Slides is that opening files created using other office software is a cumbersome process and file formatting isn’t is always converted properly. This is partly because Google’s office tools use web fonts rather than ones stored locally on your device, and partly because Google doesn’t support some of the features built into Microsoft software.
Additionally, there are some quirks with Google Docs that make it less user-friendly than other office software. As free software it does the job fine, but as a paid product it still lags far behind the features and functionality of Microsoft 365.

Примечание: этот редактор встроен в Windows (чуть ниже указано, как его найти и открыть).
Бесплатный, простой, легкий и удобный текстовый редактор, встроенный в Windows. Многие пользователи, почему-то, даже не в курсе о его существовании…
Между тем, он позволяет выполнить все основные действия с текстом: выделение, подчеркивания, выбор шрифта, размер шрифта, отступы, вставка картинок и т.д.
В принципе, если у вас не стоит каких-то больших задач по редактированию документов — этого редактора более чем достаточно!

Минусы WordPad (на мой взгляд 👀):
- не может открывать документы, созданные в Word (у тех, что открывает — может сместиться разметка документа);
- нет редактора таблиц (хотя бы очень простенького). Конечно, можно вставить таблицу из Excel, но если у вас на ПК установлен Microsoft Office, то зачем WordPad?!

Мой Офис — домашняя версия — текстовый редактор
Достаточно неплохая замена Word’у от российских разработчиков (а значит проблем с санкциями быть не должно // что теперь актуально в 2022г.). Бесплатная версия включает в себя только два редактора: текстовый и табличный.
Однако, нельзя не отметить, что редакторы выполнены достаточно качественно:
- большая часть привычных инструментов из MS Office здесь имеется;
- возможность редактирования документов, подготовленных ранее в Word и Excel;
- полностью русский перевод;
- минимализм (нет никаких лишних баннеров, диалоговых окон и пр.);
- наличие встроенной проверки грамматики и орфографии;
- относительно-низкие системные требования;
- совместимость с Windows (7/8/10/11), Linux и macOS.
В общем-то, если вы не подготавливаете каких-то сложных больших структурированных документов — то это ПО одно из самых быстрых, простых и удобных решений (для «углубленной» работы очень вероятно понадобится расширенная платная версия…).

Очень популярная и отличная бесплатная замена для Word и Excel (да и PowerPoint с его презентациями). Позволяет работать с таблицами, текстовыми документами, картинками, презентациями, формулами и пр.
После установки и запуска программы, у вас на рабочем столе будет 1 значок, открыв который, Вы получите доступ ко всем этим приложениям (см. на скриншот ниже).
Текстовый и табличные редакторы // OpenOffice
Аналог Word в OpenOffice называется Writer.
По дизайну очень напоминает старый Word (примерно 2003). По большому счету, все основные функции, нужные для большинства пользователей, здесь есть и работают достойно. Программа полностью поддерживает русский язык!
Так же хочу отметить, что в программе можно открывать и редактировать любые файлы, созданные в Word (doc, docx, rtf и др.).

Что касается Excel — то в OpenOffice есть программа Calc. В ней так же можно открывать таблицы, разработанные в Excel (форматов xlsx, xls). Пример работы в Calc — вы можете увидеть на скриншоте ниже.

Из недостатков пакета выделю следующее:
- что касается замены Excel: программа Calc хоть и позволяет работать с формулами, но некоторые из них работают «криво», есть определенные неудобства в этом плане;
- старый интерфейс, от которого уже отучают пользователей Microsoft Office;
- разметка документов, созданных в Microsoft Office, может несколько измениться, когда вы их откроете в OpenOffice. Для небольших документов не критично, но если у вас целая книга на несколько сотен страниц — «картина» печальней некуда…
В целом, подводя итог, скажу, что лучшей замены (бесплатной!) Word и Excel вряд ли можно найти…

Бесплатный офисный пакет с открытым исходным кодом. Работает в ОС Windows, Linux, Mac OS X. Пакет очень легкий и быстрый, в его составе есть:
- Writer — программа для работы с текстовыми файлами, альтернатива Word;
- Calc — аналог Excel, позволяет просматривать и редактировать таблицы;
- Impress — приложение для создания презентаций (аналог MS Power Point);
- Draw — работа с рисунками;
- Math — работа с формулами;
- Base — работа с базами данных.

Кстати, LibreOffice позволяет открывать документы, созданные в Word и Excel, поддерживает форматы: xlsx, xls, doc, docx и пр.

Бесплатный и весьма мощный офисный пакет от китайских разработчиков. Содержит в себе текстовый и табличный редактор, ПО для работы с презентациями и PDF-файлами (для редактирования оных — нужна платная версия).

Что касается файлов, созданных в классическом Word (*.doc, *.docx, *.rtf, *.txt и пр.) — WPS Office с легкостью их открывает (и даже разметка в подавляющем большинстве случаев — никуда не уезжает…).
Кстати, обратите внимание на скриншот окна текстового редактора (👇) — интерфейс ПО мало чем отличается от Word (работать легко и приятно!).

Основные особенности:
- наличие текстового и табличного редактора, встроенное средство для работы с презентациями и PDF-файлами;

В качестве дополнения, также рекомендую обратить внимание на бесплатные пакеты AbiWord и Lotus Symphony.
Правда, первый — очень простой редактор, хоть и замена Word, но по функциональности не слишком выигрывает у WordPad — а посему, зачем он нужен, если WordPad уже есть в Windows?!
Что касается Lotus Symphony — то программа не поддерживает русский язык (хотя, вроде и были русификаторы, но переводят они «криво»), а потому полноценно заменой эту программу не рассматриваю…

Кстати, если для вас бесплатность не первостепенна, а Вы ищите продукт подешевле, чем MS Office, то можете обратить внимание на продукты: Calligra Suite, SoftMaker Office, Ashampoo Office.

Очень удобный онлайновый текстовый и табличный редактор. Конечно, по функциональности он проигрывает MS Office, зато доступен с любого устройства, подключенному к сети интернет, его ненужно устанавливать, обновлять, и он бесплатен!
Google Disk — презентации
Я уж не говорю о безопасности файлов: для большинства пользователей файлы в Google Docs будут более защищены, чем на своем жестком диске. А то одна не удачная переустановка Windows может привести к полной потери всех документов на жестком диске…
В Google Docs можно просматривать и редактировать документы, созданные в MS Word, Excel, Power Point.
Пожалуй, если говорить о недостатках, то это: необходимость в регистрации, и не такой расширенный функционал, как в MS Office.

Отличная альтернатива Google Docs от компании Яндекс. На Яндекс-диске можно хранить достаточно много файлов (в облаке), не боясь их потерять. Помимо этого, документы, созданные в Word, Excel и Power Point можно просматривать и редактировать. Пример показан ниже на скриншоте.
В общем-то, больших преимуществ или недостатков по сравнению с Google Docs здесь нет, все что сказано о первом, актуально и для Яндекс-диска.
Пожалуй, добавлю только то, что в Яндекс есть дополнительные плюшки: делать скриншоты, создавать альбомы, просматривать историю работы с диском и пр. В общем-то, весь этот функционал к сегодняшней теме не имеет отношения…

В общем-то, очень похожий сервис на Яндекс-диск и Google Drive. Правда, есть и отличия…
Например, у Mail.ru очень хорошо реализовано приложение для Windows: облачный диск практически ничем не отличается от обычного HDD (т.е. вы можете прямо из проводника зайти на него и как в ничем не бывало «покомандовать»…).
Создать таблицу, документ, презентацию
По умолчанию, после регистрации дается около 8 ГБ места (однако, бывают акции и за установку мобильного приложения могут «добавить» свободного места 👌).

Кстати, стоит также отметить, что к диску Mail.ru — можно подключить и другие облачные сервисы: Яндекс-диск, Google Drive, Dropbox и пр.

Легкий и простой онлайн-редактор. Для регистрации достаточно указать лишь ваш E-mail и можно сразу же приступить к работе. По сравнению с Google Docs и Яндекс-диском, обладает большим функционалом (можете сами частично убедиться, взглянув на скриншот ниже).

Кстати, в Zoho достаточно неплохая проверка орфографии: все пропущенные запятые и неправильно написанные слова, редактор подчеркнет и подскажет вам, как исправить эти места в тексте.

Немного необычный онлайн-редактор, выполненный в контрастном черно-зеленом цвете (как для настоящих хакеров). Впрочем, кому не нравится цветовая гамма по умолчанию, ее можно сменить. Вообще, редактор очень простой, легкий, работать в нем одно удовольствие.
Для начала работы необходима регистрация (потребуется только указать лишь e-mail). Документы можно редактировать, отправлять на принтер, загружать, скачивать, конвертировать в PDF формат и т.д.

Microsoft Office – это многофункциональный и крайне удобный продукт для работы с документами, но далеко не единственный в своем роде. За время его существования было выпущено много альтернативных программных средств, которые не только похожи, но и даже лучше по некоторым параметрам.
Что может стать бесплатной альтернативой Microsoft Office – расскажу в сегодняшней статье.
Microsoft Office Online
Первый аналог Microsoft Office – Microsoft Office, как бы это странно ни звучало. Но не обычная версия, а онлайн, доступ к которой открывается через любой браузер. Оригинальный пакет доступен при оплате подписки, а вот веб-версия позволяет использовать некоторые продукты бесплатно, в частности Word, Excel, PowerPoint и OneNote.
Такой вариант отлично подойдет для тех, кто ранее использовал Microsoft Office и не хочет уходить от его интерфейса и удобства использования. Веб-версия – это точно такой же дизайн, те же форматы файлов и многое другое.
Без минусов тут, конечно, не обойтись: один из существенных – это невозможность работать в режиме офлайн. Для использования веб-версии потребуется регулярное интернет-соединение, что может стать существенным недостатком для многих. Также в таком формате нет сводных таблиц и редактора баз данных, отсутствует поддержка RTF, HTML и прочих форматов.
Особенности:
- документы можно скачать на компьютер в форматах MS Office или открытых форматах для редактирования офлайн, а также экспортировать в PDF;
- поддерживает все форматы документов Microsoft: docx, xlsx, pptx и их более ранние версии (doc, xls, ppt), а также открытые форматы odt, ods, odp;
- открывает доступ к таким продуктам, как Word, Excel, PowerPoint и OneNote.

Google Документы, Таблицы и Презентации
ПО от Google – это, пожалуй, лучшее, что можно найти в виде альтернативы для Microsoft Office. В отличие от предыдущего продукта, инструментарий от Гугла позволяет работать в офлайн-режиме, но для этого потребуется скачать специальное расширение для Chrome.
Продукты от Google были разработаны для командной работы: документами и другими файлами можно легко делиться по ссылке, что позволяет в режиме онлайн работать над одним файлом нескольким пользователям. Кроме того, у приложений есть мобильная версия, позволяющая также редактировать и просматривать Google-файлы. Вдобавок к этому инструменты хорошо работают с другими продуктами компании, будь то «Google Диск», «Календарь» или «Gmail».
Другая особенность – сохранение файлов в привычных форматах Microsoft. Если вы планируете создать файл и затем отправить его на компьютер, чтобы открыть через Office, то сделать это можно без каких-либо проблем. Работает ровно и наоборот – Google позволяет загружать и работать с файлами из Microsoft Office.

Apple iWork
Лучшая альтернатива от Apple – iWork. Сервис включает в себя такие инструменты, как Pages, Numbers и Keynote, которые ничем не уступают продукциям Microsoft Office. Они позволяют работать как с документами, так и с таблицами и презентациями.
Есть один небольшой минус – это необычный интерфейс, к которому стоит привыкнуть, если ранее вы пользовались компонентами от Microsoft. При этом все стандартные файлы Office будут отлично работать в iWork.
Стоит также отметить, что данный сервис это не только про iOS и macOS. Им спокойно можно пользоваться и на Windows, но только в этом случае будет использоваться веб-версия через iCloud.

- мгновенное переключение между iPad, Mac и iPhone благодаря функции Handoff;
- полноценная поддержка форматов MS Office;
- в документы, таблицы и презентации нельзя вставлять другие медиаданные, кроме фотографий;

Calligra Suite
Один из самых старых офисных пакетов для Linux, разработанный в далеком 1997 году, был предназначен для рабочего стола KDE, но вполне может быть использован владельцами компьютеров на базе Windows или macOS.
Изначально он выпускался как KOffice, но в 2010 году, после разделения компании, получил название Calligra Suite. Пакет имеет открытую лицензию и распространяется бесплатно, в него входит 10 программ для решения множества офисных задач.

Apache OpenOffice Writer: similar to Word
Apache OpenOffice was operated under the name OpenOffice.org until 2012 and now is simply called ‘OpenOffice’. The OpenOffice Writer is the most popular among the Microsoft Word alternatives, and together with LibreOffice, it’s most similar to the original. Just like Microsoft Office packet, OpenOffice (as well as being a word processing program) also provides an alternative to Excel, a database tool, a drawing program, a tool for mathematical formulas, and a presentation tool. OpenOffice doesn’t, however, provide an alternative for the Outlook e-mail program.
OpenOffice Writer has all the functions that you need in everyday office life. It is important that OpenOffice can open all Microsoft Word formats. When saving work, OpenOffice Writer only supports the older file formats (.doc, .xml). Most of the details are in the layout, however subtleties such as the placement of footnotes could shift content around. It is therefore recommendable to convert documents to pdf documents before you print them. OpenOffice Writer is available for Windows, Mac, and Linux.

LibreOffice Writer: alternative to OpenOffice
An alternative to the alternative: LibreOffice split off from OpenOffice in 2010 after disagreements with Oracle, who was the main sponsor at the time. The layout and functions of the program are largely the same, but there are some important differences. The LibreOffice Writer can edit and save the docx file format, whereas OpenOffice can only open it. If you often swap documents with other Microsoft Office users, it’s recommended you use LibreOffice.
LibreOffice also provides significantly more updates than OpenOffice, which can be both advantageous and disadvantageous. The advantage is that developers eliminate errors, close security gaps, and implement new features. However, they sometimes also create immature functions and not all users have the patience to keep installing new updates every two months.

AbiWord: simple program with many functions
The name AbiWord comes from the Spanish word ‘abierto’, meaning ‘open’. This Microsoft Word alternative provides similar functions to the original and the layout is similar to earlier versions of Word (up until Word 2003). AbiWord takes up little space on the hard drive: only 20 megabytes. With AbiWord, you can create tables, embed graphics, and automatically fill in fields in e-mails with the Mail Merge tool.
With a long list of plugins, the features can be expanded by installing AbiWord. The import filters, for example, are used to read and save most file formats, including docx files. In practice, however, the layout has to be reworked in some formats. AbiWord also offers a platform with AbiCollab.net where you can work on documents with other people in real time. AbiWord doesn’t have a function for exporting documents as a pdf. The program works alongside Windows and Linux on the operating system QNX, FreeBSD, and Solaris.

WPS Office Writer: Alternative for frequent writers
The company, Kingsoft, has been distributing its Office package WPS Office since the 1980s. In addition to various paid versions, the manufacturer also offers the extensive Office Free Edition. The structure of the text processing program looks very similar to that of Microsoft, comes however with a few changes. For example, it is possible to open several documents within the program and switch between them with the help of tabs. Another special feature is the two display formats “Eye Protection Mode” and “Night Mode”, which makes the writing area very easy on the eye.
Files can be saved in different file formats. Therefore, not only the WPS format is available, but also other common file types, including DOCX. If you log in, you can also access a personal cloud and save the files online. Users also have the simple option of securing the file with a password and establishing encryption.

The German software manufacturer, SoftMaker, also offers a free version of FreeOffice in addition to its fee-based offer. All users need to do is enter a valid e-mail address. You have the choice between a classic menu structure and the modern ribbon view. No matter which one you choose, the window is very tidy.
When saving the documents, you can choose either between Microsoft Office file formats or the in-house SoftMaker formats. Additionally, you have the possibility to export documents as pdf or epub. The free office suite also includes a spreadsheet program and presentation software. FreeOffice receives regular updates and is available for Windows, Linux, and Mac. WriteMonkey: writing without distraction
WriteMonkey is the right choice for anyone who wants to write without being distracted by advanced layout features. The full-screen mode is most similar to the simple white (or depending on the settings, black, green, or another color) paper, where you can let your creativity run wild. Right-click to access the menu, which will then allow you to fade out certain parts of the text, or be able to jump between different paragraphs. You can set the timer for the amount of time you want to concentrate. The built-in word completion also saves a lot of time when typing.
WriteMonkey is the smallest of the desktop programs mentioned here. It doesn’t need to be installed, which means that WriteMonkey can be used on a USB stick and then put onto other computers. To open WriteMonkey, simply download the application file folder, copy it to a random folder on your hard drive, and then open the WriteMonkey.exe file. Texts can be saved by WriteMonkey as a txt file, or exported to Word, also as a docx file. WriteMonkey only works on Windows.

Google Docs: online word processing
Google Docs is an online writing program. If you have a Gmail account, click on ‘Documents’ in the tool bar to go to Google Docs. You can also open your documents using Google Drive. In Google Docs, you can create new documents and work with multiple users on the same document at the same time. You can see straightaway what changes other users have made to the document. This is especially useful when you want to write a text together with others, or when working with editors. As with Microsoft Office, OpenOffice, and LibreOffice, Google Docs also provides features for creating tables (sheets) and presentations (slides).
The disadvantages of Google Docs are that it’s slower and has fewer features than Microsoft Word alternatives that are stored on the computer. The layout options of Google Docs are much more limited. Also, many users have reservations about trusting the internet with confidential information. In addition, the functionality of Google Docs depends on the quality and security of the internet connection. Fortunately, there is also a Google Docs app that you can download to your computer or smartphone and then work in offline-mode.

Онлайн-версия MS Office, понятное дело, нативно поддерживает все форматы документов Microsoft — docx, xlsx, pptx и их более ранние версии (doc, xls, ppt), а также открытые форматы odt, ods, odp. Пользоваться ей можно чисто интуитивно, так как ее интерфейс похож на новые версии «настольного» Office. Созданные документы сохраняются в облаке OneDrive. Это значит, что с ними можно совместно работать — достаточно дать доступ нужным людям по ссылке.
Документы, впрочем, можно и скачать на компьютер в форматах MS Office или открытых форматах для редактирования оффлайн, а также экспортировать в PDF. Минус — онлайн-версия поддерживает далеко не все функции оффлайнового редактора (например, сводную таблицу или HTML-документ из файла Word в ней не создашь). Но в целом предложение от Microsoft довольно щедрое.

Отечественный офисный софт предлагает вполне дружелюбный интерфейс с вкладками, в которых инструменты сгруппированы по типу работы. Он будет понятен даже тем, кто привык к классическому интерфейсу «либры». Программа также работает с документами MSO — этот формат для платформы, можно сказать, «родной».
За несколько лет доводки Р7-Офис превратился в полноценный инструмент с широкими возможностями. Здесь даже есть гибкий режим совместного редактирования: несколько пользователей могут работать одновременно, в «быстром» или «строгом» режимах. В первом случае изменения записываются в документ автоматически, во втором — изменяемые части файла блокируются для редактирования другими участниками проекта. Интересно, что оба режима можно использовать одновременно.
Платформа Р7-Офис доступна в трех вариантах. Во-первых, как облачный сервис от компании «НКТ» — в этом случае пользователи могут работать с системой через браузер. Во-вторых — серверное ПО для развертывания на локальной площадке. В этом случае пользователь получает не только офис, но и систему документооборота, почтовый сервер, платформу для создания корпоративной соцсети, а также инструменты управления всем этим хозяйством. В-третьих — есть десктопные редакторы для Windows, Mac и Linux. Мобильные версии приложений у Р7-Офис тоже есть — как для Android, так и для iOS.
Облачная версия программы доступна бесплатно, но только первые 180 дней. Далее цена составит 175 рублей в месяц при условии годовой подписки.

Интереснейший проект OnlyOffice, похоже, поставил себе цель объять необъятное. Это мы так считаем, а в OnlyOffice просто решили создать бесплатный офисный пакет, 100% совместимый с официальными форматами Microsoft: docx, xlsx и pptx. Любой файл (к примеру, ODF), попадающий в редакторы OnlyOffice, конвертируется в один из них. При этом само ПО — открытое, его даже можно «форкнуть» на GitHub.
Проект интересен своей кроссплатформенностью. Во-первых, с документами, презентациями и таблицами можно совместно работать через браузер. Во-вторых, десктопные версии отличаются современным интерфейсом, похожим на новый MS Office. В третьих, мобильные приложения являются полнофункциональными редакторами — не как у предыдущего пакета.
И плюс, и минус одновременно: онлайн-версия офисного пакета, в свою очередь, представляет собой простую систему электронного документооборота — это решение для бизнеса. Надо зарегистироваться в качестве представителя компании, а в перспективе — платить за место в облаке. То же касается и мобильных приложений. Полностью открытыми и бесплатными являются только десктопные редакторы.

Этот офисный пакет знаком многим пользователям недорогих телефонов китайской сборки. Дело в том, что это дейcтвительно китайская копия Microsoft Office, причем довольно-таки близкая к оригиналу. Пакет включает в себя редактор документов, таблиц и презентаций, а также программы для работы с PDF, в том числе конвертер. Совместной работы не предусмотрено — это также исключительно индивидуальное решение. Зато доступна синхронизация изменений на десктопе и мобильных устройствах, как в Google Docs.
Но при этом закрытое — брать ли на свой компьютер или мобильный китайскую программу с закрытым кодом, зависит от уровня вашей паранойи. Хотя, глядя на список поддерживаемых форматов, на это можно закрыть глаза.

OpenOffice отлично работает с форматами ODF — на них и рассчитан. Поддержка форматов Microsoft Office средняя, чем старее формат, тем лучше поддерживается. Но интерфейс — добро пожаловать в 2003 год. Для поклонников устройств и софта Apple есть своя бесплатная альтернатива «офису». Apple Pages, Numbers и Keynote позволяют работать с документами, электронными таблицами и презентациями соответственно.
Для работы с пакетом требуется MacOS, где он предустановлен, либо Apple ID для доступа к облаку iCloud. Если у вас iPhone, Apple ID у вас есть — просто заходите на сайт iCloud и вводите его. Apple iWork совместим с форматами Microsoft Office и спокойно их читает. Программный пакет также предлагает возможности совместной работы с документами, в том числе и с пользователями PC (правда, им тоже придется зарегистрировать Apple ID).
Отличительная особенность данного пакета — использование фирменных «фишек» техники Apple, вроде Apple Pencil на iPad. Кроме того, интерфейс «яблочного» офисного пакета сильно отличается от Microsoft Office — например, в электронных таблицах вы увидите не таблицу, а чистый лист. К этому придется привыкнуть.

Самый знаменитый «линуксовый» редактор офисных документов, разрабатываемый добровольцами из Open Document Foundation и предустановленный в популярном дистрибутиве Ubuntu, на самом деле, доступен практически для всех платформ — как десктопных, так и мобильных. А вот веб-версии, как и возможностей совместного редактирования, у него нет — это продукт для индивидуальной работы с документами.
Зато он предоставляет аналоги почти всех популярных элементов пакета MS Office: Writer (Word), Calc (Excel), Impress (PowerPoint), Base (Access), Draw (Visio), а также редактор формул Libre Office Math, эквивалента которому в MS Office нет. По умолчанию LibreOffice работает со свободными форматами OpenDocument, но может читать документы MS Office и экспортировать ваши работы в них.
Что может не понравиться современному пользователю, так это старомодный интерфейс редактора, воскрешающий в памяти Office 2003. Отсутствие возможностей совместной работы также не слишком радует в 2019-то году. А самое грустное — мобильные приложения LibreOffice, которые способны исключительно на просмотр файлов: редактировать ими нельзя. Это можно списать на разработку на добровольных началах, но выдержать конкуренцию с такими возможностями уже сложно.
