  • Hi All,

    Im facing a issue when using excel as source in non-microsoft product. its windows server 2003 sp2 (64 bit) enviroment. Only i need to create a DSN for excel, but i couldn’t. Tthere is no excel driver listed in odbc driver list. Do i have to install 64 bit
    odbc driver for excel?

    if so where can i download it or is there any other recommended way to over come this issue?

  • This answer is from 2011 however this did not work. After installning:

    «Microsoft Access Database Engine 2010 Redistributable»

    We still do NOT get ODBC
    EXCEL Files — Microsoft Excel Driver (*xls, *xlsx, *xlsm, *xlsb)

    anyone know how and where to download this driver without installing office?

Why do you want to do that? Office ODBC drivers are distributed with Office setup file. Did you installed 32 bit office on your 64 bit system. To locate the 32-bit Office System drivers, use the appropriate version of the ODBC Administrator tool. If you build and then run an application as a 32-bit application on a 64-bit operating system, you must create the ODBC data source by using the ODBC Administrator tool in %windir%SysWOW64odbcad32.exe. For example, the default location on a Windows 7 64-bit machine is “C:WindowsSysWOW64odbcad32.exe”.

How to use the ODBC 64 bit to read the excel file in Windows 7 64 bit machine

I need to read the excel file through ODBC 64 bit in my windows 7 64 bit machine.

By default in my system there are two odbcad32

  1. [32-bit] C:WindowsSysWOW64odbcad32 (It contains the microsoft excel driver)
  2. [64-bit] C:WindowsSystem32odbcad32 (It doesn’t have the microsoft excel driver)

Since, the system doesn’t have the Microsoft Excel Driver in the 64 bit ODBC, I downloaded the AccessDatabaseEngine_x64 and installed it.

After the successful installation under

[64-bit] C:WindowsSystem32odbcad32 the Microsoft Excel Driver is present.

Now when I run the java program through eclipse. An error message is displayed like

No suitable driver found for jdbc:odbc:Driver=;DBQ=C:/Users/ashokkumarg/Desktop/Excel/TestCaseData.xls

But the same code works very well in the Windows 32 bit machine. I dont know what could be the cause.

Java version

Windows 7 32 bit Machine (where the code works) 1.7.0_51

Windows 7 64 bit Machine (where the code fails) 1.8.0_31

CODE

I have few questions over here:

When two odbcad32 is present, How to read the excel file using ODBC 64 bit in Windows 7 64 bit machine.

While running the program whether it is taking the 32 bit odbcad32 driver details. If so how do I need to configure the ODBC 64 bit drivers to use it in the program.

А знаете ли вы, что имея 64-битную операционную систему и 32-битный Microsoft Office, вы не сможете простыми стандартными манипуляциями настроить ODBC источник данных (data source)? Например, на таблицы Excel — что, в общем-то, не такая уж и редкость.
Если вы пойдете как обычно в Панель управления / Администрирование / Источники данных ODBC (Control Panel / Administrative Tools / Data Sources (ODBC)), то вы не увидите перечня ODBC драйверов MS Office, даже если они были установлены. В лучшем случае могут затесаться какие-то 64-битные драйвера, установленные с какими-то другими оснастками:

А чтобы всё-таки поработать с 32-битными драйверами ODBC нужно запускать 32-битную версию утилиты управления ODBC (ODBC Data Source Administrator) вот такой командой:
%windir%SysWOW64odbcad32.exe

В общем-то, логично. Но почему не вывести обе утилиты в панели управления?! как это сделано в Windows 8.1, кстати.

This ODBC Driver is provided by Microsoft.

Include «Microsoft Excel Driver (*.xls, *.xlsx, *.xlsm, *.xlsb)» in the connection string to use this driver.

Description

This driver was first released with Office 2007. It is possible to use this driver to connect to old xls files as well. The driver is available in both 32 bit and 64 bit versions.

using ASP.NET I need to update an excel template.

Our server is running Windows 2008 in 64 bit mode.

I am using the following code to access the excel file:

    ...
    string connection = 
@"Provider=MSDASQL;Driver={Microsoft Excel Driver (*.xls)};DBQ=" + path + ";";
    ...

IF the application pool is set to Enable 32 bit applications the code works as expected; however the oracle driver I am using fails as it is only 64 bit.

If Enable 32-bit applications is set to false the excel code fails with the error:

Data source name not found and no
default driver specified

Any suggestions?

There is also 2010 Office System Driver Beta: Data Connectivity Components
Link which has allowed us to open Excel 2007 (XLS) from a 64bit environment.

This download will install a set of components that can be used by non-Microsoft Office applications to read data from Microsoft Office 2010 Beta files

There are no office drivers for 64bit released.

The (currently) last post at this link:
MSDN Forum details a cumbersome and ugly workaround. You could also replace the Windows Service with a COM exposed assembly, if you wish. Still ugly though. :)

Hi,

I’ve tried everything I can think of and find online (see below) about this subject to no avail. Please help! 

My Windows 8.1 Surface Pro 3 does not have the .xlsx ODBC driver, even when I look it up in %windir%SysWOW64odbcad32.exe. It only has the driver for .xls, which will eventually corrupt the .xls file used for the database after a few uses.  

On the Drivers tab in the ODBC Data Source Administrator, it says: «To install new drivers, use the driver’s setup program.»

Where is this driver setup program and where can I download the .xlsx driver? 

Also, I just reformatted and started over again, re-installing Office 365 (includes Access) and everything else. It’s a 64-bit Windows system and 32-bit Office. 

Please advise! Thanks!
